Use of "The" as Definite Article / Proper use of the as definite article

Use of "The" as  Definite Article : Part -- 1

1. নির্দিষ্ট  কোন বাক্তি বা বস্তুকে নির্দেশ করতে Singular , Plural Common Noun এর পূর্বে  The বসে ।

(a) The boys are playing in the field.

(b) Look at the picture.

2. পরিচিত কোন বস্তু বা স্থানের নামের আগে The বসে ।

(a)  The chair was made of wood.

3. সমগ্র জাতি বুঝাতে Singular Common Noun এর পূর্বে  The বসে । 

(a) The cow is a domestic animal.

(b) The rose is the finest flower.

(c) The lion is the king of beast.

 সমগ্র জাতি বুঝাতে  man , Woman এর পূর্বে কোন Article বসে না ।

(a)  Man is mortal.

4.  Uncountable Noun কে যখন নির্দিষ্ট করে বুঝান হয় তখন তার পূর্বে the বসে ।

(a)  The gold of this ring is pure. 

(b) The water of this pond is pure.

5. পৃথিবীতে  যেটি একটি আছে , তার পূর্বে the বসে ।

(a) The earth moves round the sun. 

(b) The sky is blue. 

(c) Look at the moon. 

6. কোন জাতি বা সম্প্রদায়ের নামের আগে the বসে ।

এক্ষেত্রে তাদের পরবর্তী  Verb টি Plural হয় ।

(a)  The English are industrious nation. 

(b) The rich  are not always happy.  

7.  যে কোন road এর নামের আগে the বসে ।  কিন্তু street বা avenue থাকলে তাদের আগে the বসে না । 

(a) The bus is running on the Grand Trunk Road.

(b) My uncle lives in Rankin Street ( not in the Rankin Street ) 

(c) The book is bought from College Street. ( not from the College Street ) 

8. যে সকল Noun দ্বারা কোন  পেশা বা বৃত্তি বুঝায় তাদের আগে the বসে । 

(a) Mr. Zaman joined the Bar. 

(b) He joined the  Army. 

কিন্তু কোন পেশা বা বৃত্তির  মাধ্যমে কোন মানুষের যদি পরিচিতি ঘটে তবে, তাদের পূর্বে  a / an বসে ।

(a)   A carpenter makes furniture. 

(b)  A book binder binds books. 

9.  সাধারনত ঃ proper Noun এর আগে কোন Article বসে না । কিন্তু ধর্ম গ্রন্থ , সংবাদপত্র , জাহাজ, ট্রেন, বিমান, মহাকাশযান , নদী , সাগর, মহাসাগর, পর্বতমালা , মরুভূমি , দিক , তারিখ, ঋতু ইত্যাদির নামের আগে the বসে। 

(a)  ধর্ম গ্রন্থ ---  The Quran.   The Bible. 

(b)  সংবাদপত্র --  The Prothom Alo, The Ittefaq.

(c)  জাহাজ --- The Titanic.  The M.V. Akbar.

(d)  ট্রেন --- The ulka express.

(e)  বিমান -- The Bangladesh Biman.

(f) নদী , সাগর, মহাসাগর --- The Padma.  The Arabian sea.  The Atlantic Ocean.

(g)  মরুভূমি -- The Sahara.

(h)  দিক -- The east.

(i) তারিখ --- The 2nd of January.

10. যে সকল দেশের নামের আগে বা পরে kingdom, States, Republic, United থাকে তাদের আগে the বসে।

(a) The United States of America.

(b) The United Kingdom.

(c)   The United Arab Emirates.
